The nonprofit Society supports the dissemination of the philosophy of Jalāl ad-Dīn Rūmī
and the tradition of the Mevlevi dervishes – especially the turning meditation and the sema ritual, as it has been handed down since generations. The tradition of the Mevlevi, in particular the sema ritual, has been added to the list of the Immaterial Culture Heritage by UNESCO in 2007, the International Rumi Year. This tradition is renowned for its spirituality and tolerance.

It is the special concern of the Society Mevlana Rumi Ebertsheim to take care of the dance-meditation (sema), as it has been developed by the descendants of Rumi.

This is beeing realised in seminars, by introducing and exploring the philosophy of Islamic mysticism/sufism, as well as by studying and practising the prayer- and dancetradition of the Mevlevi dervishes; in particular by getting to know the rich poetic heritage of Jalāl ad-Dīn Rūmī, the founder of the Order; the practice and celebration of the sema ritual of the Mevlevi dervishes, and by caring for a space (Semahane in Ebertsheim) where these activities are possible.

1. chairwoman: Ute Kreidler
2. chairwoman: Dr. Angelika Schumm
treasurer: Karolina Spindler-Gärtner

Honorary Chairwoman: Dr. Maria-Gabriele Wosien

We feel particularly connected with the turners of Freising (Germany), Rosa de Nazaré (Brazil), Findhorn (Scotland) und Evpatoria (Crimea). Our knowledge of the turning meditation is given from Maria-Gabriele Wosien, who was taught by Sheikh Resûhî Baykara, who was sent from Sheikh Münir Çelebi to London in 1963.

We are happy to welcome more members and supporters!
